Margaret E. Wanless was born about 1824 in Bath Co, VA.

No records exist to indicate that she was ever married. In the Census of 1850 she is listed in the house of her father, Ralph. In the 1860 Census she appears twice - once at home and once as a domestic in the home of George and Margaret Burner of Traveler's Repose. In 1870, she is listed at home with stepmother Sarah "Sally" Arbogast and brother Ralph. In 1880, she is listed in the home of brother Ralph. She probably gave birth to daughter Arlena Irene out of wedlock.
