JACOB SHINABERRY SR.:
Shinaberry was not the correct spelling when he came from Germany, It is believed to have been Shinabarger,
It is believed that they were Amish and originally settled in Pennsylvania.
It is believed Jacob Sr. was born in Germany and came to Pennsylvania with his parents when a youngster, then moved to Crab Bottom (Blue Grass) in what is now Highland County Virginia. Court records can be found in Bath County, VA.

In 1849 Peter Shinaberry bought 253 acres on west side of Clover Creek in Pocahontas County Virginia From Andrew and Mary Jane Matthews for $700. Adjoining land of Jacob Beverage and John Ratliff (Deed book 5 page 267). This is the first record of land owned in Pocahontas County by a Shinaberry. Still owned by a great-grandson Cecil Shinaberry of Dunmore, WV
All of Peter's children were born before he came to Pocahontas Co. but all married in Pocahontas.

JACOB SHINABERRY. (PETER, JACOB SR.) was born August 08, 1829 in Pocahontas, Co., WV. He married MARGARET A. STOWERS February 02, 1847. She was born 1830 in Pocahontas Co., WV.
JACOB SHINABERRY was a Confederate soldier. He was taken prisoner, did not come home until several months after the war was over. The family thought he was dead until one day they saw a man trying to climb over the fence., but did not have the strength to get over the top. They went to see who he was. It was Jacob trying to make his way home. He served with the 19th VA Cavalry CSA during the Civil War.

Margaret Ann (Peggy) Shinaberry daughter of Peter and Christina Peck Shinaberry was born December 29, 1830 and died 1864. She married Benjamin Collins July 12, 1858. He was the son of Charles Collins and Mary McCarty. Benjamin was the grandson of the pioneer John Collins a native of Ireland who first came to Pennsylvania then to Pendleton County, VA (now WV). He married Barbara Full and they settled for a while in Highland County, VA. Around 1800 he came to what is now Pocahontas County, WV and settle on Greenbrier R. not far from what is now Cass, WV. Benjamin Collins was a farmer on lower Back Allegheny Mountain.

JOHN SHARP was a Confederate soldier in the 62nd Regiment.
JAMES TWYMAN FRIEL lived on the Dry Branch of Elk and was a prisoner, during the Civil War, for three years.

She was born February 23, 1843 in Sitlington Creek, Pocahontas County, Virginia, and died April 22, 1936 in Pocahontas County, West Virginia.
Abraham did not serve in the Civil War because he had a short leg, also had an eye out from falling On a corn stubble.

Sallie had a child she said was Peters but Lucie Lowe, Maud Collins and Ettie Grimes say she was not his child. He married her about a month before the child was born. Virginia Carpenter who married Claude Carpenter says she is that child but the above named women say they do not remember her having a child by that name. They thought her name was Lettie. Sallie married Phillip Cochran on May 17, 1911. Evidently Cochran adopted the child as she married Carpenter under the name of Virginia Cochran. Sallie lived in what is now the Lee Ervine house.

He married SALLIE ORSON BAGBY September 23, 1888, daughter of JAMES BAGBY and ALETHA MARTIN. She was born May 21, 1865, and died June 23, 1912.
CHARLES PETER COLLINS In a deed dated March 6, 1884-"Being the only legal heirs of Benjamin Collins, Charles does grant to his sister Emma Shinaberry all his rights & title to 193 acres on Back Allegheny Mountain being a part of the land owned by their father Benjamine Collins". Deed book 16 page 314. She also gave him a deed to his share of the farm.
Charles Peter Collins sold his land on Back Allegheny to Newton Gum in 1903 and bought land on Knapp Creek from a Dever and in 1925 he sold this land of 209 1/4 acres to Elmer McLaughlin for $8000.
He first married Ivetta Buzzard on April 22, 1886. She was a daughter of Sampson Buzzard and Eleanor Knapp and the sister of Mildred and Jerush Buzzard Shinaberry. Ivetta was born October 13, 1869 and died May 28, 1887 in childbirth. The child also died .
His second wife was to Sallie Orson Bagby who was born May 21, 1865 and died June 23, 1912 of Brights Disease. She was born in Fluvana County, VA and moved to Churchville, VA when young. She was the daughter of James Bagby and Aletha Ann Martin.
